The Role of Private Sector in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emmissions Using Nature Based Approach
A session by ARSARI Group
Date : Monday, 14 November 2016
Time : 13.00 – 14.30 GMT
Venue : Indonesia Pavilion at COP22, Marrakech, Morocco
The presentation will focus on how it is feasible for private sector undertakings on a profitable basis to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through nature based approaches. The system applied by Arsari Enviro Industri is a polyculture system, which resembles agroforestry but on a giant scale. The combination of early income from food crops like cassava with the longer growing cycle of different tree species and the additional combination with livestock provides for a favourable cash flow and early return on investment. At the same time the system optimizes nutrient retention in the forest, early and optimal light capture, does not require external inputs other than the planting stock used and provides for permanent job opportunities while maintaining a secure habitat for wildlife. Through the application of biochar and the efficient technologies of torrefaction and gasification the overall system even becomes carbon negative. The panel discussion will focus on the practicalities of applying these systems on much larger scale.
