B4 – Transformation Strategy to Achieve Net Zero Emissions and Maintain Ecosystem Resilience

About

A. Background

Climate change is a global challenge that requires urgent, coordinated action across sectors. The AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use) and Energy sectors are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, with AFOLU accounting for 24% of emissions through deforestation and land-use changes, and Energy contributing over 70% from fossil fuels and transportation. Achieving net zero requires transformative changes in these sectors. One company working towards this goal is Sampoerna Agro, which emphasizes sustainable practices in the production of palm oil, sago, and rubber. Sampoerna Agro is implementing ecosystem restoration and a range of green agribusiness initiatives. To bolster these efforts, the company has teamed up with Universitas Indonesia (UI) to carry out comprehensive research focused on understanding and addressing these environmental issues. Aligned with these efforts, UI’s Net Zero Initiative (NZI), funded by DIKTI in 2024, focuses on energy transition, conservation, and the green economy. At COP 29, I-SER and partners will showcase these activities to private and government entities, academia, and NGOs. The talk show will highlight how ecosystem resilience and sustainable practices support Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event will include a talk show designed to highlight the pivotal role of ecosystem resilience and sustainable practices in supporting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This talk show will delve into innovative practices in land management and renewable energy, drawing attention to effective strategies that reduce emissions while enhancing the resiliency of essential sectors against climate impacts. By sharing these success stories and approaches, the event aims to inspire broader adoption of sustainable practices and foster greater collaboration in the global fight against climate change.

B. Objective

1. Showcase transformative initiatives to achieve NDC targets.

2. Bring together experts and practitioners to sustain ecosystem resilience.

3. Attract new collaborators for natural climate solutions.

The talk show will feature short presentations, followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A session.
