The global movement towards a low-carbon future is accelerating as climate change impacts become more pronounced. Decarbonization—reducing carbon emissions across all sectors—is crucial in mitigating these impacts. The transition to green energy and a sustainable economy is a complex challenge requiring substantial investment, innovative financial mechanisms, and coordinated action across public and private sectors. However, the financial requirements to achieve decarbonization goals are immense, and traditional financing models may fall short in addressing the scale of transformation needed.
In Indonesia, the urgency to transition to a green economy is heightened by its unique environmental and economic context. The country is a significant contributor to global emissions due to its reliance on fossil fuels and land-use practices, yet it also holds vast potential for renewable energy and sustainable development. The challenge lies in mobilizing sufficient financial resources, ensuring equitable access to these resources, and aligning economic growth with environmental sustainability. This discussion will focus on the strategies, challenges, and opportunities in financing the transition to a green economy and achieving decarbonization targets.
The goal is to develop a clear understanding of the financial mechanisms available for supporting the green energy transition, including public and private sector investment, green bonds, and climate finance. We would also like to identify potential partnerships between businesses, financial institutions, governments, and civil society that can drive effective decarbonization efforts in Indonesia. Ideally, this talk show will generate recommendations for policymakers to create an enabling environment for green finance, including incentives, regulations, and frameworks that encourage sustainable investment.
The talk show is targeted at a diverse audience such as business leaders, financial institutions, policymakers and regulators, academics, and researchers.
