Indonesia Pavilion Opening Ceremony at COP30 in Belém : Bridging Ambition and Action

Belém, Brazil, 10 November 2025

Indonesia officially opened its Pavilion at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP30), marking a renewed commitment to transform global climate ambition into concrete action. The opening speech was delivered by Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Indonesia Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Energy , who emphasized the Pavilion’s role as a vital platform for collaboration and innovation.

“This is not merely an exhibition, it is where ideas and actions meet, and where collaboration transforms ambition into action,” said Mr. Hashim.

He highlighted that COP30 represents a pivotal moment of implementation moving “from vision to reality” where nations must unite for a global motirão, or collective mobilization, to address the climate emergency.

Indonesia’s approach, he said, is guided by the principles of equity, common but differentiated responsibilities, and respective capabilities. The country’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC), submitted in October 2025, sets higher emission reduction targets 1.259 Gt CO₂ (low) and 1.489 Gt CO₂ (high) as part of its long-term strategy toward net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner.

Mr. Hashim also introduced key regulatory milestones Presidential Regulation No. 109 on Waste to Energy and No. 110 on Carbon Economic Value which establish a robust carbon market framework designed to mobilize up to USD 7.7 billion annually. Indonesia aims to become a global hub for high-integrity carbon markets, creating green jobs and resilient communities.

Concluding his address, Mr. Hashim described the Pavilion as “a reflection of hope and collaboration”, uniting government, private sector, academia, and civil society under one shared vision for a sustainable future.

The opening of the Indonesian Pavilion was marked by a symbolic tumpeng cutting ceremony, a traditional Indonesian gesture of gratitude and celebration. The ceremony was led by Mr. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, accompanied by his wife and Minister of Environment and Head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, signifying unity and shared commitment to Indonesia’s climate vision. The moment reflected both cultural pride and the spirit of collaboration that underpins Indonesia’s participation at COP30.
