About

A. Background

Indonesia has pledged ambitious targets to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 or sooner and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction through its Second Nationally Determined Contribution (SNDC) that will be submitted in the COP30. To achieve this goal requires deep, cross-sectoral climate actions in FOLU, agriculture, waste, energy, and IPPU, whose accumulation accounts the majority of Indonesia's GHG emissions.

In the forestry and land-use sector, Indonesia has consistently reduced deforestation, expanded peatland restoration, and advanced nature-based solutions, expected to deliver over 60% of emission reductions by 2030 (MoEF, 2023).

The agriculture sector contributes methane and nitrous oxide emissions; mitigation includes climate-smart agriculture, methane-reducing rice cultivation, and improved livestock waste management (FAO, 2021).

Waste management efforts address methane capture from landfills, recycling, and marine plastic reduction by 70% by 2025, supporting both emission reductions and circular economy development In energy sector, Indonesia is phasing down coal through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), expanding renewable energy (geothermal, solar, hydro), and boosting energy efficiency. The industrial sector, particularly cement, steel, and manufacturing, is one of the NDC sectors that having fastest-growing emission sources. Decarbonisation measures include fuel switching, energy efficiency, waste heat recovery, electrification, and adoption of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) (IEA, 2022).

This session at Indonesian Pavilion during COP30 will showcase Indonesia's integrated mitigation strategies, highlight opportunities in each sector, and encourage international collaboration, finance mobilization, and innovation to support Indonesia's transition toward Net Zero Emission 2060 or sooner.

B. Objective and Output
