Session > E2 – Leveraging Technology and Innovation Ecosystems for Climate Impact
The 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30), to be held in Belém, Brazil in 2025, marks a pivotal moment in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. COP30 is expected to serve as the main forum for countries to evaluate progress and challenges in meeting their climate commitments, as well as to submit more ambitious updates of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Indonesia has committed to addressing climate change through its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. In its first NDC (2016), Indonesia pledged to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 29% through domestic efforts and up to 41% with international support by 2030. This commitment was further strengthened in the Enhanced NDC (2022), which raised the targets to 31.89% unconditionally and 43.20% conditionally. The emission reductions are focused on key sectors, namely forestry, energy, waste, agriculture, and industrial processes, with the energy sector expected to play a significant role. Currently, Indonesia is preparing its Second NDC (2031–2035), which will adopt 2019 as a reference year and adhere to the principle of no backsliding.
n this context, technology plays a pivotal role in achieving both mitigation and adaptation targets. Our key objectives for this talk show are to facilitate dialogue among diverse stakeholders, including government representatives, industry leaders, and waste management experts to share insights, strategies, and experiences that can inform and inspire effective climate action. Highlight innovation ecosystems for climate action by promoting public-private partnerships, strengthening downstream environmental industries, and advancing low-carbon technologies to enhance competitiveness. Showcase the role of technology in climate impact, from ICT and digital MRV systems for NDC transparency to emerging innovations that drive effective mitigation and adaptation strategies.
This session will particularly highlight the utilization of hazardous waste (B3 waste) as part of Indonesia’s technological and policy approaches to achieving emission reduction targets. Discussions will focus on the sustainable use and recovery of materials such as refrigerants and industrial sludge, which not only support circular economy principles but also contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. In addition, the session will explore innovative technologies designed to minimize emissions, improve environmental efficiency, and enhance resilience to climate change across sectors.
Our target audience includes high-level government officials, policymakers, representatives from non-governmental organizations, industry professionals, and sustainability professionals. The event will also attract researchers and academics who are focused on advancing technology (Smart Solutions for a Resilient Future). Additionally, the talk show is open to delegates and attendees of the conference who have a vested interest in Sustainable Urbanization & Mobility, Innovation Ecosystems for Climate Action, and Leveraging Technology for Climate Impact.
The talk show will be structured as an engaging panel discussion with presentations. Each speaker will have 20 minutes to share their insights and experiences, followed by a moderated discussion designed to stimulate interaction and debate among the panelists and the audience. The session will conclude with an open Q&A for 20 minutes, allowing attendees to engage directly with the experts and explore the topics further.
