    INDONESIA PAVILION: SET TO LEAD CLIMATE ACTION FOR THE WORLD

    The Indonesia Pavilion at COP28 UNFCCC, Dubai, UAE takes place from 30th November 2023 to 11th December 2023 and holds numbers of Talk shows from multi-stakeholders and diverse topics. This year’s Indonesia Pavilion carries the theme “Indonesia Climate Actions: Inspiring The World” as well as being an event to show Indonesia’s commitment to the 2030 NDC target. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia as the Organizer raised four topics regarding: 1) Stronger New Renewable Energy Commitments, 2) Robust Climate Action on the Land-Based Sector, 3) Inspiring Finance and Technology Innovation, and 4) Solid Collaborative Climate Actions for the Prosperity of the People.

     

    Minister of Environment and Forestry H.E. Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Si. on the opening session of the Indonesian Pavilion stated “These sectors contribute to Indonesia’s Green House Gas (GHG) Emissions with significant efforts, 2023 The GHG reduction will reach 42.1 percent, Indonesia is also confident in achieving the FOLU Net Sink goal by 2030. It has been proven by Indonesia’s leading actions in controlling peat fires and El Nino which occurred this year”. In addition, Minister Siti Nurbaya also described that with this achievement, Indonesia will tell the world about its climate action through the Indonesian Pavilion at COP28 UNFCCC, Dubai, UAE. Adding context to the Minister of Environment and Forestry, the Vice Chair of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Lestari Moerdijat, also known as Mrs. Rerie conveyed, “Let’s act together to try and find a balance between human needs and environmental sustainability because this is our homework”. Apart from that, Mrs. Rerie was also expecting that this COP28 event could create an agreement that could protect the earth for future generations”.

    This year, the Indonesia Pavilion organized 77 panel sessions from stakeholders with various points of view to enrich the substance of the discussion sessions, according to the Chairman of the Indonesia Pavilion COP28 UNFCCC. The Indonesia Pavilion invites several prominent figures to the Pavilion to provide further insight into the topic. It also provides evidence to the world of solid collaborative actions from various stakeholders in the context of reducing GHG emissions. Apart from that, the Indonesia Pavilion provides several cultural and culinary attractions to introduce to the world. This is also part of the objectives of the Indonesian Pavilion which aims for: 1) Soft Diplomacy, 2) Promote Indonesian Climate Change Actions, and 3) Open opportunities for ideas and networking.
